Opal and Winn Dixie had a schedule, every morning they would work at Gertrude’s Pets, and visit Miss Franny Block library, but her favorite place was the garden at Gloria Dump’s. Opal felt comfortable with Gloria and would tell her about Miss Franny Block stories, and about Otis had been in jail. I thought it was really sweet that Opal would check out a book and read it for Gloria Dump since her eye sight was really bad. I enjoyed the story about Littmus W. Block that Miss Franny tells Amanda and Opal. It was a sad story and it made me cry to know he had lost his family. The creation of the candy was cleaver. “The Littmus Lozenge, a candy that was famous the world over.” The secret ingredient was “Sorrow.” Opal remembers moving and leaving her friends and her biggest sadness was missing her mom since she had left her when she was small. Amanda misses her brother Carson who had drowned. When reading this part it brought me many memories it reminded me of my sister and brother who had past away and how much I miss them.

The littmus lozenge was such a weird thing that they put in this book. I mean, do you really think there could be a candy that could make you feel sad? Hmm..if so, I don't want to eat it. I'd rather taste something that made me thing of all the good things rather than the bad. We get over things for a reason and I think some things are worth forgetting...
